    WE'RE BAAAAACK!
...and we need advise from YOU!

BUT FIRST! We stumbled on a really neat lj article today that we wanted to point out. Check it out here. The article is about "What makes good fanfic."

We had barely started all this Journal and this Real Life stuff when we were bombarded with so many emails of support we had to remove our email address from our profile!

So we've been gone forever and never really did what we promised...

...life jumped in with a kid and reading slash went waaaay to the back seat. I found when I could read, it had to be a book. Hard to use the computer and read slash with a baby on the breast, you know. But a paperback works...

...and then we began to worry about BAD reviews. As we read stories we found far more (sorry about this) crap than we found good stories. I mean stories that reminded me of what I wrote when I was about 14 and research showed me they were written by adults who'd been writing for years and years and years and had a following. What do you do about that? Do we just not do anything at all? Do we same damn it all and give our opinion and just delete the comment when someone flames us?

There is a vampire series that has "bled" over into countless LJs and it is complete and total crap! We were screaming in frustration and bellowing with laughter and were stunned by the drooling compliments the stories were getting. We mean BAD BAD BAD stories!!!

When showed them to my brother, who is gay (and we love him) and he can't stand them. He said all the characters were "wimpy fags" and the sex was totally unrealistic and characters got into positions that were not possible and it was clear that the author was not only a virgin but had never even seen a naked man before, let alone one having sex (as in videos).

What we need to say before we think about doing reviews is that what makes good fanfic for us is the same thing that makes ANY fiction good for us. Writing AND story. We want both. Story ideas are a dime a dozen, even less when it is posted online, eh? BUT it needs to be partnered with good writing. That means grammar, spelling, punctuation and more. What excuse IS THERE when we now have spell check??

And there are so many trite things out there! We both HATE using the tacky and over-used devise of using a mirror or reflection to give description of a character! PLEASE! IT DOESN'T WORK! IT NEVER DID! It doesn't work for famous authors! It certainly doesn't work for fanfic.

ALL of this put us into a total dilemma and we were sure we were just going to delete the journal and be done with it...

...and yet there was this part of me that hoped you all might answer this...

    Please...

    Hello!
Jill and Marshall here. Glad to meet you. We LOVE to read slash.

I, Jill, discovered it many moons ago back when the only slash there was that I knew about was Kirk/Spock. It gave me the creeps. I tried a story or two and was rendered numb. I pretty much forgot about it after that.

I, Marshall, agreed but I read Starsky/Hutch and some of that was hot. But, I too forgot about slash and fandom as well.

We met, Cupid shot arrows, the rest was history and then somehow, we found fanfic here online.

Some is amazing! These people should be professional writers and instead write for free. Good for us!!!

Some of it sucks BIG TIME!! We mean, SUCKS! It would be one thing if the writer were twelve, but it is people who should know better!

We both discovered in our journals though that if you speak your mind, you can get it cut big time. NOT FAIR!

Ever read a review? Professionals give their opinions all the time and they don't worry about feelings.

So that is what we are going to do. We are going to give OUR opinions on fanfic.

We are going to recommend. And we are going to let you know what to avoid at all costs. We want you to know what to read, and what NOT to read.

It amazes us that there is total SHIT out there that legions of people seem to LOVE. We believe that they MUST be kissing ass, that NO ONE could love some of this crap.

So this journal will be our picks and pans of fanfic. Love us if you want, HATE us if you will.

We will not apologize. If you don't like us, don't read us. We promise however, that if you do, we will point out some FANTASTIC fiction, and we will steer you away from SHIT.

If we go overboard, we will ignore you if you get mad. Because you've been warned.

This is a free country and we are entitled to our opinions!

So we will review, we will quote, we will tell you how we FEEL and we ain't holding nothin' back!

We will talk about all kinds of fanfic, but mostly slash as we both love it! Especially m/m. This will be media as well as RPS and OCS. Okay?

    Peace Man!
